I also agree that removing Scala from the core would be the correct thing to
do. My only concern is that Blink's table planner (which is now [the
default|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-16934]) is written in
Scala. Would removing Scala from the core also require a change there as well,
i.e. rewrite it in Java or go back to the previous planner? I have no
experience with Blink but figured it's worth mentioning.
