as a short addition: my impression why the Flink project is now struggling with
the Scala topic
it's not only because of dependencies as I have written above. I think the
further development in the last two years of the project was rapid. A lot of
fantastic things were added (unification of batch/streaming - important for the
library sector now still working more with finite data sets, stateful functions
for the combination of event driven applications with data (event) pipes or the
possibility to use python in a more interactive way with Zeppelin or Jupyter -
again important for the scientific sector).
Behind this very important and wonderful features the Scala topic (important at
the core) was maybe a little forgotten
