Review comment:
       I guess you mean the `SimpleCollector`? I think they are pretty much 
equivalent when it comes to performance/maintenance. Your version is more 
memory efficient though (shouldn't matter in reality) and would be yield a tiny 
bit less lag.
   You can change it to Kafka but I don't see any need.
