We should consider reverting this in the 1.19 branch given that we're observing
suspicious OOM errors after this:

Such a massive dependency change shouldn't be part of a bugfix release in the
first place.
We've repeatedly run into issues with netty _patch_ version upgrades; the
chance of a _major_ version upgrade not introducing some sort of regressions is
basically 0.
