I don't think such a significant semantic change is worth gaining some perf in
certain narrow scenarios. If you do it (delete latest/all versions) inside the
regionserver, you don't pay cost of 2 rpcs; see checkAndPut for example, or
increment - increment does get and put inside the server and is quite a viable
API.
But as I said I'm -0 not -1, esp. if it can be configured. So if some other
people support it I am alright with implementation being there, with reasonable
care for all the externalities (see Lars' comment above), it can be done.
