bq. Cells can have arbitrary tags. Do we really want them to be part of the
sort order of KeyValues?
Agreed that we have to think carefully about this. Obviously, we do not want
arbitrary tags to be part of sort order. AFAIK, accumulo's acl's are in sort
order. We can have system level tags that are sortable vs user level tags, or a
boolean per tag indicating whether the value is sortable.

> The HTable.increment() operation is non-idempotent. The client retries the
> increment RPC a few times (as specified by configuration) before throwing an
> error to the application. This makes it possible that the same increment call
> be applied twice at the server.
> For increment operations, is it better to use
> HConnectionManager.getRegionServerWithoutRetries()? Another option would be
> to enhance the IPC module to make the RPC server correctly identify if the
> RPC is a retry attempt and handle accordingly.
