I have no plans/time to add anything for mapred.
Stack and I chatted again yesterday, and that led to this issue. There will 
probably just be one more release of 0.96 anyway (which may or may not have 
this). [~stack]?
Then I think everybody should move to 0.98. (0.96.2 is something like 2.0.2, 
and 0.98.0 like 2.1.0). But again, that's up to Stack.

If this leads to big discussion... again... I'll just drop it right here.
