I think I overstated earlier. Ideally there would be no unacknowledged writes,
but I think the yammer folks just got lucky. depending on the timing of a
network partition, I believe the client could go away at the correct time to
have the write succeed in the write ahead log but not get a response back to
the client, so it would see failure.
