The commit hash I cited would answer the above question: HBASE-17294 was in.
I think before checking in the next patch for this JIRA, regardless of which
mode is the default, we should make sure that TestAsyncGetMultiThread passes
100% of the time.
This can be done by parameterizing TestAsyncGetMultiThread with both NONE and
BASIC modes.
