[~stack], [~ted_yu], other commiter watchers, please consider committing this
patch so we can move on to solve the problem by HBASE-17379 in a clean way.
No point in working on these two problems concurrently. The two patches change
the same files and therefore create conflicts. A single patch to solve both
problem is harder to review and may cause committing a solution later than is
possible for at least one of the problems.
