bq. How about just creating the BufferedMutatorPeriodicFlush in 1.x as 
deprecated and simply leaving the 2.x as-is ? 
Sorry for late response. If we deprecate a Public API in a version, it would be 
alternate way in that version itself. That is what we guarantee.
