This UI addition is great. Very nice.
On getChildrenLatchWithoutLocking, it will be called rarely? Or is it each
time the UI draws? If rare, jjust make a synchronized getChildrenLatch? It
would match the set and inc methods that exist already?
Why the boolean updateState to updateProgress? Why not just update on each
invocation? The boolean makes the method a little cryptic.
