I think the check at https://github.com/apache/hbase/pull/1186/files#diff-2dccd2bb831b9d93e296d871c8d5a73fR43 could be removed now. Maybe it should be replaced with a system property that could disable zero-copy when it causes problems to the application. WDYT ?
