Andrew Kyle Purtell commented on HBASE-23279:
---------------------------------------------
ROW_INDEX_V1 may not be a good default for tables in general. On HBASE-21065 we
contemplate making it default on META, which quite often receives single row
gets, or skip-scan behavior, where seeking/skipping can benefit too, and it
seems more targeted to purpose in that case.
> Switch default block encoding to ROW_INDEX_V1

> Currently we set both block encoding and compression to NONE.
> ROW_INDEX_V1 has many advantages and (almost) no disadvantages (the hfiles
> are slightly larger about 3% or so). I think that would a better default than
> NONE.
