personally, I'd prefer to see a logical higher-level WAL interface and then 
have an FsWAL subclass that might have some more specifics to make an easier 
match to an underlying FS implementation (hadoop or otherwise). Maybe a bit 
more pain upfront, but will (likely) pay off in the end).
