We could move the external memcache to examples, but be advised there is some
enabling logic in the core of the block cache to support the external option,
and that logic seems somewhat hardcoded to the specific implementation. So not
really an _example_, perhaps.
I would prefer doing something like removing spymemcached optional flag as
opposed to removing this component. We can certainly discuss conditions for
keeping it, if there are objections to keeping it, based on what those
objections specifically are.
