metatool apparently also provides the functionality to run JDOQL queries. I
think that might have been the reason why RawStore wasn't used.
That functionality won't make sense for hbase metastore.
I also see that the author(s) didn't want to introduce new thrift (public) api
for some the functions needed, but that doesn't actually mean that RawStore
can't be used.
