I agree that it's safer and consistent to have version info on the file itself.
But if the side file and version in the footer exists then we should have a
precedence for source of truth and probably raise an exception if the version
differs. +1 for the current patch, pending tests. Can you please create a
follow up for fixing the side file version update + fixes?
