## Summary
Writing a `VARIANT` column to a v3 table whose write format is ORC fails
with a
`NullPointerException` from inside `SparkOrcWriter`, instead of the
`UnsupportedOperationException("Variant is not supported")` that
`OrcSchemaWithTypeVisitor` already defines for this case.
