For reference, the use of -1 for “off” in the interval (or really any negative value) is: 1) It’s in-line with the value Spark added for not expiring entries from the table relation cache (added in Spark 3.1) 2) We have some precedence of using -1 as the value for turning things off in some places. 3) When I used 1 year, the exact duration that it had to be greater than was a rather specific number.
