This is exactly what should be fixed...not for ECF specifically/this bug in 
particular...but in general...for all usage.   If that were the case, then this 
bug would be unnecessary...and the request of the user on 
[email protected] and probably other unstated use cases would be satisfied 
as well.   Given this:  why is it not possible to 'automatically' install a 
feature from http source...while it's possible 'manually'?  

Sure...if you use http source you have to make a simplifying assumption...i.e. 
there is one version...the 'latest'...to actually install...but this it not 
technically difficult to achieve.
