Is the goal that the RPC callback is still fired with a special cancelled 
status?  If so I think it's possible to make the guarantee that the sidecar 
buffers are no longer referenced when the callback fires (exactly as you have 
designed it).  If the goal is to make sure the sidecars are no longer 
referenced when the (synchronous) RpcController::Cancel() method is called, 
that's going to be harder.
