Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-14066:
------------------------------------

Let the DIH savvy committers decide. If we have sufficient skills and desire to
e.g improve its security then we can keep it. If not at least 2 committers step
up within say one week then I agree. It is a contrib so it does not bloat the
core except for the AdminUI parts that live in core.

Even if I do not recommend it much other than for prototyping, you’d be
surprised to see how many thousand users that depend on it. So before we
deprecate we should probably wrap it as a package and solicit on solr-user our
intentions. That way someone may step up and want to maintain it as a package
on github, for the benefit of the whole community, and our messaging can then
be “DIH is no longer part of Apache but thrives in its new home at github...”

> DataImportHandler has outlived its utility. DIH doesn't need to remain inside
> Solr anymore. Let us deprecate DIH in 8.4 (and remove it from the Solr distro
> in 9x or 10x).
