Cassandra Targett commented on SOLR-14760: ------------------------------------------ While I see the value of the proposal in short-term convenience and less immediate disruption of filters, etc., over the long-term I don't think it's the right choice. The project is Solr, all our mailing lists will be *@solr.apache.org, the website domain will be solr.apache.org, etc.. Except for one kind of big thing, the user list, which will be [solr-user@lucene.a.o.|mailto:solr-user@lucene.a.o.] Once the dust settles, we'll have an odd exception to explain to newcomers to Solr (..."all the lists are *@solr.apache.org except for one because we used to be part of Lucene..."). How long do we intend to keep it that way? As a committer in the Lucene TLP, I don't want Lucene to agree to carry another project's high-traffic mailing list forever. As painful as it might be in the short-term, making a clean break now while everything else is also changing is the best option IMO. The only other option in my view is to not move the list but start fresh and ask people to resubscribe, turning off the old list after 6 months or some other period of time. Either way, but keeping it with Lucene forever doesn't sit right with me. > Order new Solr mailing lists > ---------------------------- > > Key: SOLR-14760 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-14760 > Project: Solr > Issue Type: Sub-task > Reporter: Jan Høydahl > Assignee: Anshum Gupta > Priority: Major > > 1.
