There are occasional build failures resulting from tests assuming all codecs return singleton doc values. Here is an example recently introduced in #16581: ``` ./gradlew :lucene:core:test --tests "org.apache.lucene.index.TestSortedNumericDocValuesUpdates.testMixedSingleAndMultiValuedSegments" -Ptests.file.encoding=US-ASCII -Ptests.gui=true -Ptests.jvmargs= -Ptests.jvms=4 -Ptests.seed=CF640C4D5BB0C054 -Ptests.useSecurityManager=true -Ptests.vectorsize=512 ``` The attached patch is a (minimalistic) attempt to make simple text support these singleton views. I wanted this to be compact and not bloat the codec.
