Keith Hawkins commented on MCOMPILER-335:
-----------------------------------------

It it feasible to change the default value for source and target Java version
with the next major version of the compiler plugin? So have it behave as it
does now but with the default source and target values shifted to a more modern
java version unless the properties are set.

>
> default source/target have been set to 1.5 in 2010 (MCOMPILER-80). I think
> it's about time to update the default.
> 1.8 would be my preference, as 9 /10 would probably be a tad too ambitious.
> But, since Maven requires at least Java 1.7 to run, 1.7 is probably the
> safest option.
