If the value is dropped, we should break the build in my opinion if these 
values aren't set. But that's too painful for starters. So leaving the value to 
1.5 is actually consistent, results are predictable and when developers need 
newer language features, they must set source/target or release anyway.

Adding the hint how to set these values is probably already an improvement.
