It appears that we were using sanitize in the wrong context here. Sanitization
would be necessary if we were supporting the user entering HTML markup as the
value. Since we are not trying to support this case simply escaping the value
is sufficient. A follow-up PR will remove other instances of the incorrect use
of $sanitize.
