Very good points.

I'm not aware of any similar Expression Language in Hive... the closest thing 
in OOTB Hive's UDF is JSON Path 
([https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/Hive/LanguageManual+UDF]) but the 
JSON path is provided as a string anyway.

Honestly I think it's safe to assume that expression language (as we're doing 
in NiFi) would not conflict with Hive and I think we can use the EL on the NiFi 
side. That would be really useful.
