You open Apache OpenOffice, and click then File > Open or you click on a file in your Windows Explorer? If you do the click on the file in the windows explorer, pleas see if you have the same result if you open a file in the Apache OpenOffice itself Background: If you open it with the Windows Explorer, you not only open the file, you start also the program. If Windows Explorer tell the Windows: "Hey open MS Office and Apache OpenOffice with the file xy", we have little chance to change this. Then it sounds more like a bug in Windows Explorer.
