In PowerPoint, when you have a text placeholder and you click on the words in
it, the rectangle outline AND the little squares you can use to resize it
become visible.
In Impress, the first time you click on the words, the rectangle outline shows
up but not the squares. If you click a 2nd time on the rectangle outline, the
red squares will show up but those are the ones used to rotate the rectangle
(This is not something I personally use very often). You have to click another
time on the rectangle outline and then, the blue squares you can use to resize
will show up.
Of course, you can try clicking right away on the rectangle and depending on
your mouse skillz, you'll hit the target and have access to the squares. But I
don't think there is a good reason not to show the squares as soon as someone
clicks on the words.
