I see clearer now ;-) What you insert is a inplace OLE object, that explains why on double-klick the editor for it opens. This is in principle a good thing and when doing this in draw/impress the obect even gets the right size. In writer indeed you get a square; as a workaround, on the selected object open the 'Object' entry in the context menu (or somewhere in the menu). There, gop to the 'type' tab (the 1st one). You have an 'original szie' button there; use it. Thus the errror is that OLE obejcts are not insterted in Writer with their original size.
