Well, I conducted that experiment and I was mistaken.  AOO 4.1.1 will sniff
inside the document and recognize that it is an .odt even though the extension
is .doc.  Microsoft Word 2013 will do the same thing, treating the document as
an .odt.  Older versions of Word may fail though (especially before Office
2007).

So we still don't know the sequence of events that led to the observed
corruption.

It would be interesting to see the file that came back from OneDrive.

When you put files in OneDrive do you do it with a shared folder on your
computer or do you use the Web Interface?

Also, what operating system are you using?
