Insert Sheet - two windows
In an aged Issue 62448 - canceling Insert Sheet From File leaves Insert Sheet
dialogue behind
I found interesting statement: "The Sheet from File... Menu entry is for the
convenience of the user
and calls the Insert Sheet dialog with the file selector box open. Closing the
import wizard with Cancel jumps to the calling dialog itself which is the same
as shown then used Insert Sheet."
Choose Insert > Sheet From File...
Aforementioned "convenience" has unfortunately one weak point: first dialog
"Insert sheet" is fully shown for a very short time
and then over it opens up another dialog "Insert" - a modal one. Once suitable
file is picked, that dialog disappears and dialog "Insert sheet" becomes fully
visible.
(see attached file - it doesn't reflect necessarily actual layout i.e. relative
position of both windows).
I hardly see any logic in this approach. It also seems to me counterintuitive
in light of other examples within AOO
(of course proportion wise):
- AOO Writer
let's assume that one intends to insert text file
choose Insert > File...
after choosing file in dialog "Insert", dialog "ASCII Filter Options" is
shown - NOT BEFORE
- AOO Calc
let's assume that one intends to import text file (possibly in CSV format)
choose File > Open...
after choosing file in dialog "Insert", dialog "Text import" is shown - NOT
BEFORE
In brief: please do not show both window (dialog "Insert & dialog "Insert
Sheert") one over the other.
Simply first display dialog "Insert" and upon closure - if a file was choosen -
display dialog "Insert Sheet".
