I've tried remaking the profile as suggested and everything hung up, even the Start button failed to open to provide a restart. Eventually a right-click in open space on the desktop woke the machine up. I restarted and cleared the new OpenOffice profile file and started Impress. Insert file crashed as before. I noticed that the file browser was the standard Windows one not the AAO which I had got used to. Attached crash report shows two windows which actually overlapped.
