The bulk of the work here has been merged.
I had a couple of other things I mentioned wanting to do once merge challenges
weren't so extreme, so I'm going to leave this issue open for a couple weeks
and use the issue for those. If I end up not getting as far as I hope, I'll
close this and file other issues.
