Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-14444:
------------------------------------
When browsing, it struck me that the hierarchy such as "Deployment Guide ->
Scaling Solr -> SolrCloud Clusters -> Aliases" is perhaps not consistent. Seems
like everything related to SolrCloud is grouped under this 3rd level "SolrCloud
Clusters". But not all topics there relate to "Deploy" or to "Scaling". Some
do, but topics like Collection API and Alias would be more natural to see in
the "Configuration Guide", i.e. something you'd want to pick up quite early,
before you start worrying about deploying and scaling a distributed setup.
Also, a minor glitch I saw (not related to reorg) is that the
"configuring-solr-xml" page does not mention "<tracerConfig" tag for Jaeger.
Not sure how this will be if the contribs gets converted to installable
packages, if they somehow will be documented in another section of the guide or
in a separate guide? But as it is now, I think it should be mentioned?

> SOLR-14173 changed the look & feel of the Ref Guide, and left one glaring
> problem unresolved: our top-level categories are far too many for that sort
> of design.
> This issue will track a full reconsideration of the Ref Guide organization. I
> have a couple of thoughts and will update this issue with those when I get
> started on it; for now this is a placeholder issue for future work.
