Eric Pugh commented on SOLR-16798:
----------------------------------
so, making the short form continue to be supported means a bunch of extra
testing etc... It's a lot of bash code etc... Would it be okay with folks
to just make this a 10.x commit and not backport it? Presumably then it will
still work as currently designed in the 9x if I only commit it to 10.x..
I do worry that trying to preserve backwards compatibly on these means that
this whole umbrella is really a 10x only effort. Which is probably fine, but
does mean we'll start diverging.
> Remove the bin/solr -f pattern in favour of bin/solr start -f explicit
> command.

> bin/solr -f was a way to start solr, which made sense when bin/solr was only
> a script to start solr. These days, there are many commands under the
> bin/solr, so lets make life simpler by making ti clear you have to say
> bin/solr start if you want to start solr.
