The formula is typed with MathType, embedded into the document as an OLE object. (The following actions were done with Chinese Simplified locale) I downloaded MathType from its official site, and installed it. When I double click the formula embedded in the document, MathType opens up a window in which the formula is rendered correctly. When I close the window, the formula shown in the OOo writer becomes messy in fonts. I installed a Chinese version of Windows, and installed OpenOffice under the Windows with locale un-touched. By the way, I also tried on OpenSUSE, the same problem exists.
