Siddharth Seth commented on TEZ-2924:
-------------------------------------
+1. Looks good to me.
On the 2.8 supporting additional major versions - the original setup may have
been better.
e.g. Existing installs of Tez with Hadoop upgraded to 2.9 will at least get 2.8
features if the shim were to support both.
An upgraded Tez - which is aware of 2.9, would change the 2.8 shim to
accept 2.8 only and add a 2.9 shim, after which new features will be available.
This goes wrong if the shims end up being shipped independently, or multiple of
them end up on the clsaspath - which is a bad install, but we don't have a way
of detecting this.

> As Hadoop creates a matrix of which versions support what features, Tez will
> need a shim to be cross-compatible and make use of various fixes/features as
> and when possible.
