Updated patch.
Spoke to Bikas offline on the NullEdgeManager. Instead of exposing that to
users, users can now specify null as the initial EdgeManager and will need to
update it at runtime. This ends up using a NullEdgeManager internally - but
that itself is not exposed directly to users.
