Only streaming algorithms will work (zip is more akin to tar.gz, and uses
virtually the same algorithm as .gz for compression). Others could be added,
but there's little need or benefit. Also, what if keys exist with multiple
compression types? Which gets used?
Text is compressible enough that gz should give us plenty of headroom for the
forseeable future.
