Thanks for the quick response! I take it that was a rhetorical question about the coincidence -- the import was lost on me! But hopefully this is all meaning something to you. That's the whole config section for that account: I didn't cut anything off... This isn't the only folder with weird totals, and I notice that gmail still shows many unread messages that have been read locally. That could just as easily be a gnus issue, though: one problem at a time.
