Haven't followed the discussion, so I hope I am not completely off... Neither nor, if I understand the problem correctly. Dependencies always had to be specified _after_ the files depending on them. It usually works anyway because this is only enforced for static libraries (so presumably for some reason the static libdb is picked instead of the so), but that doesn't change that specifying the libs first is wrong and always has been.
