why would it even matter? what you're supposed to do isn't any different from a MUA dropping an fcc. everything else follows from that.

Then do I move it to `new' or `cur'? `mbsync' hasn’t seen it, so maybe `new', but it’s been read (`S') so maybe `cur'?

'cur' will be fine for just about any message ('new' corresponds with imap's \recent, which is mostly meaningless).
