I have a backup of a mailbox made using mbsync that I would like to restore to
an 1&1 mail account and then to be accessed by thunderbird (version 52.9.1 on
Linux - for reasons left out here I cannot upgrade to a later version).

After having done so, I have noticed gaps of a couple of months in my Sent Mail
folder yet I have been able to ascertain that the missing e-mails indeed exist
in my mbsync backup. I suspect that there is some incompatibility between the
mbsync backup (which uses maildir format??) and when it is first restored to
1&1 (unknown which mailbox format they use) and then downloading it using
thunderbird (which, I believe, uses the mboxrd format?).

I suspect some formatting issue makes some e-mails unreadable and would like to
ask if someone has seen this before and what I may need to manually edit in my
mbsync backup before making another attempt to restore to 1&1/thunderbird?
