These are two VERY different issues, IMO.


The first is to simply improve PdfStamper to not modify the filters (etc.) of the original document when loaded and modified (unless the user wants to do that). That, I believe, should solve the needs of folks for making changes to existing documents.

The second is a MUCH larger problem as it would involve a complete rearchitecture of the PdfWriter or PdfStamper, so as to do "object level copying w/o reading the tree into memory".
