Subject: Re: [iText-questions] editing iText classes and packages
Hi.
It has been mentioned that compatibility with JRE 1.2.2 and 1.3.x is needed.
Though I'm very curious about who's using these antiquities any more (except
from Oracle 10g and some old Web browsers).
There are people still using 1.1.6 with Lotus Domino and many more with 1.2.2 and 1.3.x. People don't change the JDK in production just because a new one is available.
Excerpt from the Java printing tutorial:
"In 1998, the SDK 1.2 advanced printing on the Java platform with the
java.awt.print package by allowing applications to print all Java 2D
graphics, which includes 2D graphics, text, and images.
For the SDK version 1.3, the JobAttributes and PageAttributes classes were
introduced to AWT printing so that client applications could specify the
properties of a print job and the attributes of a page."
So I propose the following:
- the modifications in PdfContentByte and
PdfGraphics2D seem to be 1.2.2 compatible.
Ok.
- the actual JPS implementation may be compiled and bundled with the rest
through a separate Ant task, precedeed by the Java version check.
Maybe. I would rather see your code than guessing on the options available for distribution.
Best Regards,
Paulo Soares
Looking forward to an agreement,
alexandru
