I was hopping that Itext and the PDF spec could determine that the overlays been added were almoust identical and only add the differnces. :-)
No, but there are PDF optimization tools such as PDF Enhancer (http://www.pdfenhancer.com) that can do detect duplications and inefficiencies in PDFs and therefore reduce their size. Try it out!
