If i go to File->Properties->Font on the original PDf layer file (with empty fields) :
Original Font | Type | Encoding | Actual font | Type
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arial | TrueType |Windows |
Arial | TrueType | Windows | Embedded | TrueType
Arial,Bold | TrueType | Windows | Embedded | TrueType
That tells you that the fonts Arial and Arial Bold are embedded, but not subset.
When i make the same thing on the orignal file (without added layer) : Original Font | Type | Encoding | Actual font | Type ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helvetica-Bold | Type 1 |Windows | Arial-BoldMT | Type 1 Helvetica | Type 1 |Windows | ArialMT | Type 1
That tells you that the fonts are NOT embedded...
.... all font are Type1 fonts or Type3 fonts.
Type 3's, eh? Unusual...
The final size for the 17 pages is 85KB and fonts represent 3.7% !!!!!
Because it's a bad PDF that doesn't use embedded fonts.
I don't understand how PDF work. Why these two files are so different (17pages->85KB, 1page->224KB) ?
Large embedded fonts.
> No control at all? Not even on the fonts for the fields?
If we have no choice, i think i could negociate that. What is the way of building a PDF file (choice of font) to make the PDF layer file the more ligther i can ?
Actually, given the situation - I would NOT touch the layer file itself. Instead, I would look into 3rd party PDF tools such as PDF Enhancer (http://www.pdfenhancer.com) that can do font subsetting, and other reduction techniques...
> In the second case, you have control since your software is doing >the filling/stamping/flattening.
You're right. But, i can have no control on the layer file, can i force the PDF layer file to use an alternate font ? Can i change the font used in the fields on the fly ?
Yes and Yes.
